Benefits and features of the scheme

Betterment of the needy

The central government wants to ensure that the financially weak individuals have a safe and secure roof over their heads.

Low rent

The main benefit of this project is that the poor people, living in the cities and migrant labors will be able to stay in permanent homes, at comparatively low rents.

Construction model

Private Public Partnership model has been selected for the construction of these low rent homes.

Facilities

The homes, constructed for the poor and migrant labors will have water supply, and electricity. The authority will give the permission for home construction on private plots.

Lucrative incentives

Industries cannot function without labors. The Finance Minister stated that if these companies construct homes for the employees, then the central government will provide profitable incentives to the companies.

Extension for subsidy

 The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana offers the perk of credit linked subsidy, for the beneficiaries, falling in middle income strata. The recent announcement highlights that these individuals will get the benefit till March 2021.

Creating new jobs

The central government is hopeful that the implementation of this project will create massive employment opportunities in the construction sectors. Additionally, the scheme will pave the path for the inflow of Rs. 70 thousand crore in all fields, which are associated with construction sectors.

Eligibility for the applicants

Indian citizens

The project will become operational on a pan-India basis. Thus, the legal citizen of the country who fulfills the other requirements will be able to apply.

Middle income group applicants

The people, categorized as MIG and living in the urban areas, will be able to partake in this scheme.

Migrant labors

The registered migrant labors are one of the main target beneficiaries of this scheme

Urban poor

Poor people in the cities, with no permanent residence, can apply for obtaining the keys to the low rent homes.

Documents necessary for registration

Residential documents

The residential proof, issued by the native state government must be attached with the enrollment form.

Identity proof

Submitting a copy of the applicant’s Aadhar card is a must for verification purpose.

BPL certificate

The urban poor people, interested in applying for this scheme will have to produce their BPL certificates.

MIG certificate

The candidates, falling under the middle income group will have to produce their MIG certificates.

How to get application form and apply for the scheme?

On the 14th of May, 2020, the Finance Minister officially highlighted the perks of the Affordable Rental Housing Scheme. She also mentioned the eligibility that is necessary for becoming the beneficiaries of this project. However, she did not mention anything about the enrollment process. It was said that once the respective department finalizes the registration related details, the mode will be declared officially. We will upload the relevant details on our official portal in time.

Is this scheme in any way related to the PM Awas Yojana?

Ans: No. The PM Awas Yojana and Affordable Rental Housing Scheme are separate schemes, targeted towards different beneficiaries.

Who will fund this scheme?

Ans: The central government of India will fund this scheme.

How many people will get the benefit of extended credit linked subsidy?

Ans: Around 2.5 lakh people will obtain the perks of extended credit linked subsidy.

What is the allocated budget for this scheme?

Ans: The Finance Minister has not mentioned the budget for this scheme. However, it is a part of the 20 lakh crore Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan.

What is the expected date for the official implementation of this scheme?

Ans: The Finance Minister said that the scheme will be rolled out officially during the next month. The final date has not been highlighted in the scheme draft.
