Haryana Government Announces Special Packages to Counter Coronavirus Effect
The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi addressed the common people on the 24th of March 2020. He mentioned that the best way to defeat Coronavirus is to break the contamination chain. Earlier, the Central Government had implemented a lockdown for 14 days. During the recent speech, the Prime Minister said that that the lockdown period has been increased to 21 days.
The state governments are taking the necessary measures to ensure that successful operation of lockdown. Different state governments have come up with financial aid and ration schemes for the people. The Chief Minister of Haryana, Manohar Lal is walking on the same path.
On the 23rd of March, 2020, the state Chief Minister announced a unique financial plan for the needy people of this region. The Haryana government will spend around Rs. 1200 crore on a monthly basis. The money will be used to offer ration to the people, who are not financially sound.
The people, who belong to the BPL category, daily wage earners, individuals, belonging to Low Income Group and construction labors will be able to attain the benefits. The Haryana Chief Minister said that the ration department will offer food packages to such beneficiaries. Each ration package will consist of a kilogram of sugar, a kilogram of rice/wheat and 1 kg mustard oil. The Chief Minister also highlighted that the Finance Department of Haryana will spend Rs. 15 crore to implement this scheme. Each month, this amount will be spent to ensure that the poor people have the necessary food supplies.
The children, who attend government schools, get free meals. However, during the lockdown, all the schools have been closed. The Haryana government mentioned that dry ration will be offered to these children. This food distribution will continue until the schools and Anganwadi centers operate normally.
Around 12.38 lakh beneficiaries attain monetary support under the Mukhya Mantri Parivar Samriddhi Yojana. Under this project, the registered families receive Rs. 4000. The state state Chief Minister said that the government will deposit the outstanding amount of Rs. 2000 before 31st March 2020. Additionally, the state authority will give Rs. 6000 to the registered beneficiaries from April onwards. An allocation of Rs. 720 crore has been made for the implementation of this task. The package and the benefits will ensure that the poor people can tackle the lockdown period, without having to worry about food and fiscal security.
